LaCascia tournament will wrap season June 14

After three seasons of active play this past year, Shuffleboard Club league play is drawing to a close. The fall and winter season had two leagues while the spring league sported three leagues for the first time ever.
The last official activity for the club has traditionally been the annual Joan LaCascia Memorial Tournament, which was begun with funds left from the estate of Joan LaCascia, an active Shuffleboard Club member. The tournament started in 2021, and LaCascia’s son, Dave LaCascia, now plays in the tournament and was instrumental in getting the popular event started.
The tournament is limited to 24 players and each player draws the name of their partner and the location of their court twice for two rounds of play. All the usual rules apply except for one: a player cannot play off their opponent’s discs, which means the purpose of this tournament is to score only. The winners are the highest scorers and the funds from the LaCascia family pay for the cash prizes. It is a highlight of the shuffleboard calendar and a great way to end the club’s year.
May 22 Thursday afternoon league results: Team Jack inched out Team Lynne 7-5.
Team Jack all-game winners were Jack O’Brien and Carol Schubeck and John Mount was the all-game winners for Team Lynne. Team Kay handily beat Team Anita 8-4. Team Kay’s allgame winners were Sally Fowler and Hoan Lekhoc while Team Anita had no all-game winners.
May 23 Friday morning league results: Team Shel slipped by Team Sally 7-5. Team Shel’s lone all-game winner was Shel Magnuson. Team Sally had no all-game winners. Team Patti bested Team Carol 8-4. Team Patti’s three all-game winners were Hoan Lekhoc, Patti Nemrich and Rod Osgood. Team Carol had no all-game winners.
May 27 Tuesday evening results: Team Harold upended Team Sue 8-4. Team Harold’s three all-game winners were Sandy Derouin, Sally Fowler (substitute) and Stephanie Reagan. Team Sue’s all-game winner was Roger Bennett. Team Sally edged out Team Karen 7-5. Team Sally’s all-game winners were Sally Fowler and Connie Terry. Team Karen’s solo allgame winner was Sal LaScala.
