First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible. Most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together. “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

Understanding the God’s plans and purpose is oftentimes diffi cult to discern. It takes a long time before things become clear, just like in the story of the continuing saga of Joseph, the son of Jacob. Nine of Joseph’s brothers have been freed by Joseph to return to Canaan with the food they had bought. Joseph has held back his brother Simeon as a hostage with instructions to his brothers to return with their youngest brother Benjamin, a Joseph’s full brother. Jacob is extremely concerned about sending his youngest son, fearing that some calamity could befall Benjamin as it had Joseph.

In Genesis 43:1-2, it reads: “Now the famine is severe in the land. And it came to pass, when they had eaten up all the grain they had brought from Egypt and their father said to them: “Go back, buy us a little food.” Things had gotten so bad that Jacob was forced to comply with the demands of Joseph concerning his brother Benjamin, or they all could perish. Jacob is put into a very uncomfortable position.

Making a difficult decision is hard when there is no faith and trust in God. With that said, Jacob doesn’t understand, his sons don’t understand, and Joseph himself cannot comprehend the plans and purpose God has for him and his brothers.
