Tournament Poker Club

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with the Tournament Poker Club for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play on Saturday, March 15. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee/treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
At the tournament on March 1, a wonderful sunny day and over 60 players made for a great time for all participants win or lose. High hand winners were Edwin Lucero (5-5-5-5-K) and Erika Greenwood (5-5-5-5-J). Chunghe Scharschmidt won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 10-3.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Bill Zurn, first place; Joseph Guglielmo, second; Nancy Floyd, third; Nita Doyan, fourth; Steve Edrich, fifth; Lonny Ton, sixth; Laurie Teague, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Guglielmo and Zurn were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Guglielmo was holding 10-5 and Zurn had J-8. The flop came J-10-9, Zurn bet and was called by Guglielmo. The turn was an ace, and the river was a seven. Zurn went all-in and was called by Guglielmo. Zurn had a straight J-10-9-8-7 for the win.
Zurn has lived in Leisure World for 13 years and has been a member of the poker club for eight years. This was his first final table win in quite a while, but there have been others. Zurn is a bus driver here in Leisure World and in his spare time he is in the Wine Club, the Rat Pack, on the golf team and plays bocce ball. Fortunately he also makes time for cards.
