LW Men’s Golf Club
The Leisure World’s Men’s Golf Club tournament was played Nov. 27 at Turtle Lake Golf Course. The weather was sunny at the 7:30 a.m. tee time and warmed up nicely throughout the morning. Sixty golfers (30 teams of two men) competed in three flights and contended for best net (gross score minus handicap) scores, plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closest to the pin challenges.
The format was played with rules identical to the Guys and Gals tournaments. Additionally, adding to the difficulty, individual drives were hit from the red tees on the front nine, and from the blue tees on the back. Every one of the teams were net at or under par, and there were 60 birdies and 14 circle hole winners.
Closest to the pin on the seventh hole was Roland Phillips at 4 feet 5 inches, and on the 16th hole it was Ron Steele at 8 inches. The average net score for all 30 teams was 48.8, just 5+ strokes under par. The average gross score was 57.9, slightly under four strokes over par.
All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).
A flight winners ( handicaps of 0-6): Mark Rice and Seung Lee, first place; Gene Archambault and Rolando Ramirez, second; Thomas Kim and Hyon Shin, and Young J. Kim and Dong On Kim, third.
B flight winners (handicaps of 7-11): Jack Haskins and Ron Jackson, first place; Roland Phillips and Scott Tuchfarber, second; John Kolthoff and James Farr, and Steve Kang and Jae H. Lee, and Sam Williamson and Bob Barnum, third; Marv Jones and Ron Steele, fourth; Dong On Kim and Won G. Park, fifth.
