Walk & Roll-A-Thon’s non-walking festivities open to all
GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION
Participants can check in and pick up bibs at 9 a.m.
The Golden Age Foundation, the charitable organization that raises money exclusively for the benefit of Leisure World Seal Beach residents, is sponsoring a Walk & Roll-A-Thon Saturday, Oct. 26, centered around Clubhouse 6.
While 200 residents walk and roll the 2.4 mile route, residents and their guests can enjoy festivities at Clubhouse 6.
Five musical groups will perform from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Residents and their guests can watch the show while enjoying food for purchase from Koffel’s food truck.
Featured acts include Legends of Rock, the Song Birdz, Hui O Hula dancers, The 4th Street Band for Seniors and the Aloha Ukulele Ensemble. Eighteen vendors, representing various services of interest to the community, will be on hand inside the clubhouse. Door prizes include Ralph’s gift cards, awarded every half hour, and a grand prize from JAFRA Spa, valued at $150 at 1:45 p.m.
GAF reminds walkers and rollers to check in starting at 9 a.m. to pick up their race bib and wristband. The wristband entitles them to lunch at 11 a.m., provided by California Pizza Kitchen. T-shirts for participants may be picked up at Clubhouse 6 on Friday, Oct. 25, from 2-5 p.m.
Five water stations for the walkers along the route will be manned by the LW Community Emergency Response Team, Filipino Association of Leisure World, Korean American Association and the Rainbow Community, as well as Gasper Monteer Realty that supplied 2,000 bottles of water for walkers and attendees.
Roy Nakamura of Mutual 4 recruited a dozen golf cart owners to patrol the 2.4 mile route along with the GRF Security Department. Over a hundred resident volunteers will facilitate the event, which mirrors the one GAF sponsored in 1997.
GRF will provide shuttle bus service to and from Clubhouse 6. People are encouraged to park at Clubhouse 4 and hop on the bus, available from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
