Democratic Club

Today, Oct. 3, the Democratic Club will sponsor a forum dealing with issues of concern to seniors in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, at 2:30 p.m. Jon “Bowzer” Bauman will host the gathering which will include a conversation with congressional candidate Dave Min about the future of Social Security. Bauman, a senior adviser for Social Security Works PAC, is best known for his role as “Bowzer” in the 1970s rock and roll revival group Sha Na Na. In addition to being famous for his long career as an entertainer, he is also known for his involvement in support of social justice issues.

Distribution of vote-by-mail ballots for the 2024 General Election will begin in four days on Monday, Oct. 7. A voter drop box, located in the Amphitheater parking lot, will be open the same day. Vote Centers will be open no later than Nov. 2.

The SBLW Democratic Club has endorsed the following candidates:

• Frances Marquez for OC Board of Supervisor.

• Harris/Walz for president and vice-president.

• Dave Min for House of Representatives District 47.

• Matt Bragman for school board trustee Area 5.

• Franaz Pardasani for school board trustee Area 4.

All registered Democrats and no preferred party voters in LW will soon receive a letter from the club’s board of directors listing these endorsements. For more information, email the club’s vice-president Kathy Moran at Kmoran97@yahoo.com.

Democrats and supporters seeking more information about the propositions that will be on the ballot are invited to attend the club’s voter education session in Clubhouse 3, Room 3, on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. The discussion will be moderated by the committee chair Bev Bender. The club’s hospitality and voter information booth located in the parking lot outside Clubhouse 6 will be open and every Tuesday and Thursday in October from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Yard signs will be available at the booth for Democratic endorsed candidates.

Both new and long-term Democratic Club members are invited to attend the “lunch bunch” informal get-together sessions at the Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. Advance reservations are not necessary, but more information is available by calling Debbie Wrathall at 714- 658-6111 or emailing debbiewrathall@ mac.com.
