SB District 2 councilmember seeks resident volunteers
CITY OF SEAL BEACH
Seal Beach District 2 Councilmember Ben Wong is seeking resident volunteers to join the city’s Planning Commission, Environmental Quality Control Board, Parks & Recreation Commission and the Seal Beach Cable Communications Foundation. These unpaid, nonpartisan and voluntary positions help serve the City of Seal Beach.
The responsibilities of these municipal bodies are as follows:
• Planning Commission: The Planning Commission is comprised of five residents, one from each District, appointed by the City Council to review matters such as use permits, variances, and higher-level planning and zoning decisions. The Seal Beach Planning Commission was established November 1949. The appointments to the commission are for a term of four years.
• Environmental Quality Control Board: The Environmental Quality Control Board gathers public input on environmental issues and provides comments on environmental documents prepared by the City, as well as those of other jurisdictions, if the project will impact Seal Beach. The environmental Quality Control Board was established October 1970 and consists of five members serving terms of four years. It was created to meet and cope with environmental and pollution problems facing the city and its inhabitants.
• Parks & Recreation Commission: The Parks & Recreation Commission was established in May 1955 and reactivated in 1970. Appointments to the commission are for a term of four years. The commission acts in an advisory capacity to the city council and director of recreation and cooperates with other governmental agencies and civic groups in the advancement of sound parks and recreation planning and programming.
• Seal Beach Cable Communications Foundation: The Seal Beach Cable Communications Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, was created in 1984, organized primarily for the purpose of fostering and promoting civic advancement through activities related to cable communications, community promotion, and other appropriate public services. The foundation consists of a five-member board of directors appointed by the city council for a term of two years.
