LW Pool League begins season LW Pool League begins season

The fall pool league began on Sept. 2. For those unfamiliar with the league, there are six teams on Monday and on Wednesday. There’s an A, B and C level player on each team. Each player plays singles against their level opponent in eight ball and nine ball. They also play doubles with each of their teammates against their corresponding opponents in eight ball and nine ball.

For example, Team 1’s A and B players will play Team 2’s A and B players in both eight ball and nine ball. Players alternate shots in all doubles matches. At the same time on another table, the two C players will be playing eight ball singles. The final match of the night is eight ball, with all three players alternating shots.

Nine ball is played differently from the standard way. There are three balls that count, which are the three, six and nine. Any singles player, or team, that makes any two of those three balls wins the game. Running nine balls in succession is extremely difficult, but most players can run three balls. This method of play makes nine ball more fun.

Every player plays two games of singles, four games of doubles and the final game of eight ball where the entire team plays. Each match is 13 points, so there’s never a tie at the end.

On Sept. 2 the Russtlers—no, that’s not a misspelling—got off to a fast start beating the Cue Crew 11-2. The Russtlers won all six of their singles matches and the final eight ball game of the night. Jennifer Spindler won six games and teammate Frank Sablan won five.

The Snipers beat Palo de Villar 8-5. Phuoc Tran won five games, including both of his singles for the Snipers. Teammate Gary Monahan won both of his singles and two of his doubles matches.

The Favorites edged The Renegades 7-6 in a close match that went down to the final eight ball match. Connie Adkins led The Favorite with five wins, including a long hard fought eight ball singles match.
