Donation event will station six trucks around LW
SALVATION ARMY
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the GRF and the Salvation Army will team up to fill six trucks with items donated by Leisure World residents. The trucks will be on site from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The familiar trucks will be located at six locations scattered about Leisure World: Clubhouse 1, 2 and 4, the Amphitheater, and at the corners of Fairfield and Oakmont, and St. John and Del Monte.
The Salvation Army will accept a wide variety of household goods, clothing, sports equipment, and small to medium furniture.
IRS donation receipts will be issued on request. GRF Security and volunteers will be present to assist and control traffic flow. Donation bags and flyers are available from Mutual boards and from the Clubhouse 6 coffee counter. People are encouraged to take what they need, but it is not necessary to use the provided bag. All proceeds from this event will directly and exclusively support the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers, a program that offers up to 180 days of free housing, counseling and employment opportunities to those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. Since 2019 charitable contributions and material donations have drastically declined to the point that the effectiveness of this program is in jeopardy.
Those who would like to volunteer or ask questions should contact GRF Director Mike Banfield at Mbanfield@lwsb.com.
