LW Men’s Golf League

The LW Men’s Golf League contested the par-71 6,000yard Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana on Sept. 6. Due to the extremely hot weather only five members played a friendly skins game. Sam Choi won eight skins; Chris Lankford, six; Dave LaCascia, 4. Closest to the pin on the fourth hole was a tie between LaCascia and Gary Stivers, who also was closest on the 12th hole.

Ten golf league members played the par-71, 5,800 yard River View Golf Course on Sept. 9. With lots of elevation changes and river crossings, this course is very demanding. It was a bright, sunny, quite warm morning, with wet and slow greens due to heavy overnight watering.

A flight winners: Chris Lankford, Sam Choi and Dave LaCascia, net 66, first place; Clay Fischer and Seon Kim, 67, second; Jim Goltra, 68, third; Gary Stivers, 69, fourth.

B flight winners: Bill Zurn, 65, first place; Tom Ross, second; Bill McKusky, third.

LaCascia had fewest putts for the A flight, and Ross and Zurn tied for fewest in the B. Stivers was closest to the pin on the 140-yard par-3 second hole, and LaCascia was closest on the 100-yard par-3 ninth. Lankford, LaCascia, Goltra and Choi each had two birdies.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par) are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
