SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

One of the many sterling qualities of outgoing president Kay Mount’s three years at the helm of the LW Shuffleboard Club is consistently recognizing the many ways members contribute to the success of the club.

At the club’s May all-member meeting, Mount’s last as president, she thoughtfully recognized people who had gone above and beyond in their efforts to make the club successful. She presented each of these individuals with appropriate small gifts and personalized remarks on how their efforts made all the difference. Author Danielle Pierre once said, “Recognition is the heart’s way of saying ‘I see you, and you matter.’” This approach has become a lasting legacy to Mount’s tenure as the club’s president and part of its culture and has been embraced and emulated by others. Members are recognized by photos in the newspaper from open play players to new officers and captains. One of the bulletin boards in the court building has the title “Royalty of Shuffleboard.” John Mount, Kay’s husband, has contributed to highlighting members through a membership directory and a special photo board at the courts where the faces of active members are prominently displayed. Member Ellie West sends out a funny newsy monthly newsletter listing member birthdays and important dates and member Sue Burkschab introduced the club to Team Reach, another more technical way of congratulating one another. The club leadership and members alike have learned that by acknowledging each others value and efforts, loyalty, greater commitment and pride in the club and all its activities is instilled.

Chance for club involvement in the next few weeks include continued league play, open play twice a week and the next allmember meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 6, in Clubhouse 1 at 10 a.m.
