Starting Monday, Sept. 2, the LW Pool Club will begin its 10 week fall pool league. Each Monday and Wednesday night in Clubhouse 2 at 6 p.m. six teams will play every other team in their division twice. League playoffs will be Nov. 11 and will end with sweepstakes on Nov. 18.

The club held its monthly tournament on Aug. 14. Twelve two-person teams played seven rounds of nine ball. Shots were alternated and counted one point for the three ball, two for the six ball and three points for the nine ball. A team could score from 0-6 points in each game.

In the seventh and final round, Ron Kennedy and John Barth made the three and nine to take first place with 31 points. Cory Navarate and Dave Silva finished in second place with 28 points as Silva made the six ball and Navarate banked the nine into the side pocket. Gary Monahan and John Burns were shut out in round seven, but took third place.

Some members of the club were given a chance to have a photo-op with one of the greatest pool players in the world—Francisco “Django” Bustamante—in the pool room at Clubhouse 2 on Aug. 9.

Bustamante, nicknamed “Django” by friends, is a professional pool player from the Philippines. In 2010, he was awarded the title of world champion in nine-ball tournament, has won over 70 international titles and is considered one of the greatest pool players of all time.

He was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America, Hall of Fame in October 2010. He was the second Filipino inducted after Efren “The Magician-Bata” Reyes. Bustamante is still actively competing internationally.
