First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together.

Pastor’s Message

Genesis 30:25-43 will be the topic of Pastor Bruce Humes message this week. Jacob worked 14 years of labor for his father-in-law Laban and has accumulated two wives, 12 children and two concubines. But no monetary wealth to speak of. He goes to Laban to tell him that he wants to go to his own country. Laban had not treated Jacob fairly. He had been deceitful to Jacob and had taken advantage of his 14 years of service that Jacob had worked.

In Genesis 30:30, Jacob tells Laban, “For you had little before I came and it has increased to a multitude, and the Lord has blessed you wherever I turned.”

Laban was reluctant to let such a hard worker go so he again asks Jacob to name his wages. The unorthodox Jacob devises a seemingly unusual plan of asking for the imperfect, speckled, less valuable among Laban’s flocks of lambs and goats, so the deal is agreed upon. Jacob utilizes a strange feeding regiment that makes no sense except that God intervened and used it to bless Jacob with an abundance of offspring amongst his flocks making Jacob very prosperous.

God often works in mysterious ways that are hard for believers to understand, but it is used for his purposes and glory.
