First Christian Church First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

Pastor Gary Whitlatch will finish his messages on the book of Colossians this week. He will share the closing portion of the letter, written by Paul the apostle to the Colossians from his prison cell in Rome. Even though he was some distance away, Paul’s heart was evidently with the people in Colossae and the entire letter, written by his own hand, was fully intended to encourage the church he had established.

Pastor Whitlach will cover Colossians 4:7-18 and the bounty of information given in that final chapter. Paul writes about whom he is sending to the church and the varied background of the visitors entrusted with the handwritten letter. He describes their purpose: to encourage the hearts of the new believers. Verse 17 is a specific message to Archippus, the church minister, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may continually fulfill it.” All the verses are a reminder of the responsibility even today to encourage and strengthen the many churches established around the world that labor earnestly to further the Kingdom of God.

First Christian Church takes that verse to heart by supporting and praying for many ministries around the world that are often experiencing persecution and hardship because of their faith. Hebrews 12:28 reads, “Therefore, since we received a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe.”
