On April 5, 28 members of the Shuffleboard Club attended the annual “Ham Shoot” tournament, setting the all-time record for most attendance. With high energy and excitement, and hearty potluck snacks, 24 players lined up to conquer the obstacles for each round of play. Annette O’Connell won the first round with a score of 77 points. Chandra Patel won the second round with a score of 105, and captured the overall winner honor with a combined score of 159 points.

Sally Fowler, treasurer and team captain, created the model for the annual shoot tournaments conducted in the fall as a Turkey Shoot and the spring Ham Shoot. Rob Osgood, also a team captain, has designed and built roving trophies. The firsttime winner of the Flying Pig was able to take home the unique art a garden statue representing the successful evening of modified shuffleboard play. Capt. Karen Mendon donated decorated rocks as tokens of success to the runner-up overall winners. Consolation prizes were cans of deviled ham.

On April 6, the club held its first group meeting to form the Spring Madness partnership, which included five Shuffleboard Club members and three prospective members. The group will play with two-person teams on Wednesday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Courts Building. Those interested in joining the group or learning the shuffleboard basics can call Kay Mount at 775-527-0426.

The Tuesday Evening League played on April 4 with the Night Shufflers edging past the Night Discs Throwers 7-5. The Night Shufflers Helene Neun and Georgie Martinez both earned the all-game winner honors for the first time. Veteran player Bob Peterson earned the all-game winner status for the Night Disc Throwers.

The Friday Morning League will return to play on April 14. Monday and Wednesday open play practice is from 9–11 a.m. and on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
