Pool Club’s spring season off to a good start
The Leisure World Pool League started its spring season on Jan. 23 and Jan. 25, in Clubhouse 2 at 6 p.m.
Six teams played both doubles and singles each night. Each match was 13 points, so with an odd number of games there is never a tied match.
On Monday, the Cue Crew edged In the Money seven points to six. Bruce Pettys and Gary Monahan each won four games for the Cue Crew.
In another close match, the Rail Runners beat the Renegades 7-6.
Bob Barnum and Guta Basner each won four games. Every player in this match split their singles games of eight ball and nine ball.
PJJ’s won over Right on Cue 9-4. John Barth of PJJ’s won all seven of his matches and is the first player to score a perfect seven this season. Teammate John Burns pitched in with five wins.
On Wednesday night, Triple Threat edged out Milly’s Boys 7-6, by winning the final eight ball game where all six contestants played.
Jerry Wrenn of Triple Threat made a very difficult shot on the eight ball, which was near the side pocket but only a half inch off the rail. That shot had to be perfect and it was. Jerry Wrenn won five games. The Favorites beat U3 by an 8-5 margin. Connie Adkins won five games, including both of her singles matches and teammate Dave Silva won five for the Favorites.
Bank It won a close one against the Ruffians 7-6. Paul Shellenberger won five games for Bank It, including both his singles games. Ruffy Ramos, of the Ruffians, also won five and swept his singles matches.
The league is off to a good start. Four of the six matches ended in 7-6 scores. That is an early indicator that teams are evenly matched, and that is what Club President Steve Edrich and the Pool Board aimed for. With only six teams playing each night, the matches are going faster and players aren’t having to wait to play.
