A construction crew applied gunite to the pool and spa facility Oct. 29.

Gunite is a concrete blend that’s applied through a high-pressure hose. Workers sprayed the gunite at high velocity onto the steel rebar to form the pool floor and walls.

The work required staging vehicles on Golden Rain Road and St.

Andrews Drive, which closed the sidewalk to foot traffic for a couple of days. The gunite needs time to cure, so this week, the equipment room will have the stem walls poured, with coping and tile installation to come.

The pool has been closed since November 2019, when defects were uncovered in the 1960s-era facility.
