Security Update: QR Code Guest Entry Passes

One of the conveniences of the new gate system is the ability to send a QR code to a guest via their cell phone. This code can be scanned, allowing a staff to issue guest passes in a timely manner.

Recently, Security received reports that the QR codes are not being read by the scanner. The Security Department had a multidepartment meeting on April 8, and it was discovered that the QR code is for one entry only.

If a resident sends a QR code to someone it is only good for one entry. What is occurring is that guests use the QR code as a type of permanent pass, which it is not. The QR code information automatically drops after its first use. This is why guests on subsequent visits cannot use the code.

Some may ask why the QR codes cannot be made permanent.

If that was the case, residents could bypass the four permanent guest rule and send QR codes to countless numbers of guests, reducing the security aspect of the system.
