Mary Wood 1939-2021 John Crago 77 Manuel Buenrostro 65 Kalu Ezikpe 66 Marilyn Bauer 73 Families assisted by McKenzie Mortuary, 961-9301 —Paid obituary involved in Leisure World, she worked with the Friends of the Library; served ten years as a director on the Mutual 6 Board, with the last eight years as president. Mary also served on the Golden Rain Foundation from 20122016. She was the historian and a Sunshine committee member for the Golden Age Foundation. She will be missed by her family and her many friends including Tammy, Howard and Ruth. She was loved by all and is now at peace. ••• Mary Wood joined her husband, John (2004), and her heavenly savior on May 11. Originally from Ottumwa, Iowa, Mary moved to California in 1960 with John and her first three children. Her youngest daughter was born in California in 1961. Mary is survived by her son, John (Jennifer), daughters Sheila, Sharon (Robert) and Susan (Joseph). Her grandchildren are Andrew, Benjamin (MaryBeth), and Malia and her great-grandchildren are Levi, Eliot, Bianca, Wesley, and Leedeno. Ock Sang Im 1933–2021 Ock Sang Im passed away on April 24, at the age of 87. She is survived by Suk Im, her husband of 62 years, their three children and three grandchildren. Ock was born in Korea and moved with her children to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1965 to join her husband, who was working toward a Ph.D. The family subsequently lived in Arizona, Michigan and Colorado. In 1979, the Ims returned to Korea, where Ock and her husband lived for the next 30 years. One of Ock’s proudest achievements was her 20-year tenure in the logistics division of the United States Armed Forces in Seoul, Korea. In 2008, Ock and Suk moved back to the U.S. and settled in Leisure World. Ock’s life in Leisure World was one of the happiest periods of her life. She was involved in many activities including the Korean American Choir, Creative Writers Club and the classical music appreciation class. Her enthusiasm for golf led her to compete in tournaments. Ock’s creative talents were expressed in painting, creative writing, and gardening. Most of all, she loved Leisure World for its warm and diverse community. She valued friendship, and her many friends will greatly miss her. A memorial service for Ock Sang Im was held on May 5 at the Korean Martyrs Catholic Center. The family requests that donations to the church be made in the place of flowers.

Olive Dugas 1921-2021 Olive Dugas passed away peacefully and went home to God on April 11 at Candleberry Care in Seal Beach at the age of 99. Olive was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 14, 1921. Growing up, Olive was an excellent student, and in addition to her studies, worked at her father’s bakery. She met the love of her life, Edward Dugas, while ice skating at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. Olive and Ed were married on Nov. 27, 1941, just 10 days prior to Pearl Harbor, and they shared a life of more than 50 years together before his passing in 2000. She was a mother to two loving daughters, Carol and Mary. Besides being a devoted homemaker, she enjoyed a long career as an executive secretary at U.S. Steel, from which she retired after 25 years. In 2000 Olive moved from Pittsburgh to Leisure World, where she lived for 17 years until she moved to Brookdale Senior Living. Olive was very social and loved Leisure World. She was involved in playing bridge and golf and enjoyed dancing, playing her organ and spending time with her many friends and neighbors. She was a member of Community Church in Leisure World. Olive was preceded by her loving husband, and daughter, Mary Illson, who passed away in 2019. Olive is survived by her daughter Carol Kern of Leisure World; granddaughter Marra Boada (husband Robert) of Manhattan Beach; and greatgrandchildren Dillan and Ryan Boada. Olive was cremated per her wishes and will be interred at sea in a private family service. ••• Richard Van Wasshnova Funeral Service Funeral services for Richard Van Wasshnova will be held on Saturday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 13900 Church Place, Seal Beach. All are welcome. An outdoor celebration of life will follow at a residence in Cerritos. Ge Qu Ling-Mou 1949 – 2021 Ge Qu Ling-Mou, a devoted family man and a talented senior mechanical software engineer, passed away on March 19, at the age of 72. He resided in Seal Beach at the time of his passing and is survived by his wife, AiQin, and their daughter Leela. Ge was born on Jan. 3, 1949, in Xi’an, China, to Xiuting Wang and Shen Qu. He grew up in a large and loving family. His father was a legendary general in World War II and was “Ge’s hero,” always standing there to support him. Before coming to America in 1986, Ge graduated from Northwestern Polytechnical University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. He played a leadership role in his college years. In 1993, Ge earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota with honors. He had been constantly praised by many for his intelligence, smarts and diligence in UMN. During his 30 years of working experience in the CAD/ CAE industry, Ge presented brilliant and prolific professional strengths and accomplishments. The most important company in his career was Dassault Systemes Solidworks Corp., the world’s leading 3D CAD developer. In 2001, Ge joined Solidworks in Boston, Massachussetts and contributed many key features, such as Sweep, to the software design. Ge was married to the love of his life, AiQin Li, in 1976. Their daughter Leela was born next year. She soon became the light of their life. Ge was a dedicated, caring and beloved husband, father and grandfather. His grandson Ethan, who was born in 2002, was always his pride and joy. Ge gave his family all he could and more. His love was endless. Ge showed a wide range of interests including reading, painting, photo, history and the arts. He had an amazing life journey. He was a person with truly kind heart and generous spirit. He loved to make friends and to help others. His bright smile, great sense of humor and warm personality will be remembered forever by all his relatives, friends and colleagues.
