What’s Up With Recreation?

The GRF Board has approved two construction projects that will require short closures of the Turtle Lake Golf Course and the Aquatic Center this month.
The course will be closed on Thursday, April 17, after 2 p.m. through noon on Friday, April 18, for repairing and remodeling the walkway. Golfers may return to play the afternoon of April 18.
The Aquatic Center will be closed from Tuesday, April 22, through Saturday, April 26, for installation of additional handrails in the pool. It will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 27.
Plans are in the works for Recreation’s annual Cinco de Mayo bash on May 5 from 5-7 p.m. Since this event has outgrown Clubhouse 6, Recreation is relocating it to Clubhouse 4. Jimmy Koffel’s Taco Tuesday trucks will be on hand with traditional Mexican fare as well as virgin margaritas at Memorial Circle, adjacent to the clubhouse. Gather up your friends to dance and be serenaded by the Mariachi Nuevo Jalisciense.
Recreation will be treating moms again this year on Mother’s Day Eve, May 10, with an elegant brunch with live entertainment, and free family photos. This multi-generational, family-focused event grows every year so be sure to get tickets soon at the Recreation Office in Building C. Tickets are $47 per person or $350 for a table of eight.
Besides the Recreation Department’s Entertainment Calendar— which covers special events, bus excursions to fascinating locales, arts and craft fairs—Amphitheater shows and weekend dances.
The Recreation Department is putting together a promotion with the Boathouse on the Bay Restaurant for a special happy hour gathering just for Leisure World. The restaurant is offering one free beverage and one free hors d’oeuvre, valued at $20 and Recreation will provide bus transportation at $22 per person. Guests may then choose to purchase more appetizers at $10 each or dinner off their extensive menu. A minimum gratuity of $5 per person is required. The first 30 people to sign up will get a free Duffy boat ride on Alamitos Bay. Recreation is offering this first to groups of 38 who can fill the bus and if it is a hit, may extend it to all residents as a GRF excursion. Bookings will be for a 4-6 p.m. event either on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening. Clubs or groups who are interested may contact Recreation for details.
