Hearing Loss Association of America meets today, April 10, at 4 p.m.

The Hearing Loss Association of America Long Beach/ Lakewood Chapter will meet today, April 10, from 4-5 p.m. at the Weingart Center, 5220 Oliva Ave., Lakewood (across from the Lakewood Mall).

The attendees will learn about how people with hearing loss can set up their cell phones for emergency situations. The information must include emergency contacts, medical information, allergies, name and address.

This came to light when a member was attacked in a local park and knocked unconscious. His hearing aid and cochlear implant were knocked out and couldn’t be found until later. Surrounded by the police, Fire Department and others, he was unable to hear.

Katie Wright and Miryam Fernandez will share a lot of valuable information. A large sign to be placed in a car sun visor will be available for those who attend.

The Hearing Loss Association of America meetings are free and open to the public. They provide a friendly place to share information, ask questions, find solutions, and learn about technology that makes living with hearing loss easier. All meetings are captioned and held on the second Thursday of each month.
