Letters to the Editor

Reading the articles about Service Maintenance getting new Bigfoot customized utility carts replacing the old Cushman carts brought a smile to my face. It’s a start but well deserved. Not only were the old engines very loud, but numerous times, when going around the bend their engine petered out. After a few minutes they were good to go. I really felt for these guys! The staff of that department are very good at their respective craft, they work hard and they are friendly to boot.

These new utility carts are a long time coming and the designation of funds for them were most needed. Every time I see one of the carts I am reminded that writing and submitting this perspective is way overdue. Here it is!

Did Professor Ken Aiso, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and currently the Professor of Violin and Viola at Loyola Marymount University, ever thrill the audience with his violin performance March 16. Every note played by Professor Aiso and his piano accompanist Valeria Morgovskaya, a graduate of Kiev State Conservatory and currently the staff accompanist at Loyola Marymount University, was exquisitely beautiful.

Thank you Community Church for hosting this incredible performance.

We now casually throw around the word billion. We now have billionaires (that’s a million-million dollars) wanting an additional tax cut by disabling Social Security, firing staff, closing field offices dismantling phone service, etc. That’s how you kill a program that recipients have been depending upon since 1935.

I’ve been collecting SS payments for 17 years now and have not even once worried that I might not get my check, no matter which party was in charge.

If you’re concerned, please join us and Americans all over the country on April 5 to tell them hands off our Social Security. Or hands off Medicare, or whichever U.S. agency you care about.

As seniors we have a vital interest in protecting our earned payment and our reliable monthly check for us as well as for our kids and their kids’ future financial security.

Please join us on Saturday April 5 on the sidewalk in front of the globe from 3-4:30 p.m.

Make a “Hands Off” sign or grab one of ours and join us. Help us fight this violation of trust.

The Trump regime is dismantling our government. It’s not surprising. Project 2025 clearly delineates the intentions of Trump’s presidency.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) reported about 75,000 federal employees have accepted offers to leave their jobs, plus 220,000 workers serving in positions for less than one year have been terminated. Slashing personnel brings services to a grinding halt, despite any additional budgetary cuts or freezes to spending. Try calling to get a question answered.

Departments that have been affected include: Veterans Affairs, Defense, Education, Energy, Health & Human Services, Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service, National Park Service, Agriculture, Foreign Aid & Development, Federal Grants & Loans, Inspectors General, Justice, and State.

Changes to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are being considered as trillions are tallied for reductions. LW shareholders are particularly vulnerable to the dismemberment of the federal government, beyond people who are connected to veterans services or Health & Human Services. Nationally, 27% of seniors rely on Social Security for 100% of their income. Leisure World has a population of approximately 9,600.

If 27% of our shareholders were to lose their income, the result would be catastrophic for them and significant for those who survive. Could you afford an additional $1,000/year for Golden Rain fees?

And what about the impact on Mutual fees?

Join Leisure World shareholders who want to preserve Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from changes imposed by Trump’s regime. Join the demonstration at the Globe from 3-4:30 pm on Saturday, April 5.

Earick Ward’s letter (March 13) contained very strong criticism of Democrats, stating that they used to be for peace and now are forever wars, which of course is contrary to all reason and common sense. The only leader who wants a war is dictator Putin. And it’s very possible that some of Trump’s loyal supporters have serious memory loss.

They’re playing the blame game, blaming Democratic lawmakers for heckling the president during Trump’s joint address to congress March 6. But it was okay for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green and other Republican lawmakers to boo and call President Biden a liar during his State of the Union address Feb. 8, 2023.

Good things are not happening in our country or around the globe.

King Donald and Elon Musk are causing mayhem, chaos and disorder, and not only here in this country, but around the world as well.

U.S. goods are being boycotted across most European countries, no more Coca-Cola, no more California zinfandel wine or almonds.

They’re protesting Trump’s policies.
