As many LW residents know, You Are On Your Own in the event of a disaster. As an initiative to minimize risk, testing for family radio communication is conducted by LW radio operators every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. on Channel 13.0. The radio operators roll call in sequential order by Mutual number, which takes 15-20 minutes.

Residents can be part of the Boots on Ground, which consists of 10 groups who report as eyes, ears, hands, and feet on ground. The chart above shows where to go and what to do.

There will be two drills held April 17, at 10 a.m. and Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. The family radio practices are to test communication. The Boots on the Ground holds practice drills two times a year. Residents interested in joining the Boots on the Ground team should provide their contact information and preferred group to Eloy Gomez at eloyg@lwsb.com or call 562-431-6586, ext. 2356.

Residents are encouraged to tune in for alerts and warnings and have a personal go bag with emergency supplies ready to be on their own. Drills like the family radio communications and Boots on the Ground help minimize confusion in an emergency.
