The Orange County Board of Supervisors recently approved a motion to extend animal shelter hours and add a community liaison to address community concerns related to the shelter system. Later this year, the Orange County animal shelter will reopen with its pre-COVID hours of 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

The shelter will also publicly post data on its intakes, outtakes, adoptions and euthanasia on its website. Current shelter visitation hours are weekdays from 2-5 p.m. and weekends from noon-5 p.m.

The agenda item on shelter hours and transparency was co-authored by District 1 Supervisor Janet Nguyen, who represents Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, La Palma, Seal Beach and Westminster.
