The LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) will hold a safety class on Friday, March 28, at 9 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. The topic “How to Communicate in an Emergency” will be presented by LW CERT President Catherine O’Brien. Residents are encouraged to learn how to be prepared before an emergency and how to communicate with loved ones after it happens.

LW CERT’s free monthly safety classes are 45 minutes long and all residents are welcome to join. Refreshments are provided.

The February safety class was centered on earthquake preparation and was taught by O’Brien, GRF Health and Safety Specialist Eloy Gomez and LW CERT Vice President Fara Macartney. Attendees learned how to prep before an earthquake by moving heavy objects to lower shelves and using the proper safety straps and fasteners to secure tall and heavy furniture to wall studs along with many other measures to take. Attendees also learned strategies to stay safe during and after an earthquake.

The giveaway item for February was a collection of safety straps and cables to secure furniture and safety latches for cupboards, won by June Harenski.
