First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
In Romans 1:1-6 the Apostle Paul has introduced himself to the church in Rome, and in verse 7 he sends this greeting, “To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” This is Paul’s signature greeting in all his epistles combining the Greek greeting of grace, Charis, with the Jewish greeting of peace, shalom. The grace of God is always first, then followed with peace, as peace flows from God’s grace. Without God’s grace or unmerited favor, peace—or that feeling of well-being—would be fleeting.
Paul refers to them as the beloved of God, meaning God has a deep love for each one of those who are called saints. A saint isn’t someone who has been exalted by some earthly standard, but one who exalts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and has put his or her faith and trust in him. It’s a moniker for those who follow Christ. This grace and peace spoken of by the apostle Paul aren’t just a kind gesture, but are gifts from God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ. When Paul makes this statement, he is implying strongly the equality of the Son and God the Father. Weekend Services
Sunday services are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and are traditional services with hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Ray will also bring the special music this week.
Saturday services include contemporary songs of worship, led by Gregory Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment and are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
Midweek Studies
The Monday women’s Bible study, led by Melli Herrera, is held from 10:3011:30 a.m.
Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible study from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and the Friday prayer and Bible study from 4-5 p.m.
All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend the above services and Bible studies.
