The next LWSB Democratic Club membership meeting will be on Wednesday, March 26, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 1:30 p.m. All Democrats and supporters are invited to arrive as early as 12:30 to socialize with other like-minded Leisure World residents. Members can also join the meeting by Zoom by contacting lwsbdemocraticclub@ gmail.com for information.

Laura Oatman is the keynote speaker for the March 26 meeting. She is the official representative for Indivisible in the 47th Congressional District. Longterm club members will remember Oatman as the candidate who dropped out of the 2018 Democratic primary race in our district in order to support fellow candidate Harley Rouda for Congress. Rouda went on to defeat Congressman Dana Rohrabacher in that year’s general election. Oatman then worked for several years as the district director for Rouda.

Indivisible, which now claims more than 1,300 local chapters nationwide, started as the Indivisible Guide, a Google Doc guide to organizing locally to pressure elected officials. It caught fire as millions of people picked up the guide and its name and organized their own local Indivisible groups to put the guide into action. These new Indivisible activists formed a nationwide movement of people taking matters into their own hands to build their own power through collective action.

Dave Min, LW’s 47th District representative in Congress will hold a town hall today, March 20, starting at 7 p.m. in Newport Beach. He will answer questions as well as discuss his latest work in Congress. People can call his Costa Mesa office at 949-668-6600 for details, including the address of the event.

The LW Democratic club’s board now has two new task forces. On March 11, the board authorized its new Strategic Planning Task Force to facilitate the publication of all board and membership adopted policies and procedures on the club’s website and elsewhere as appropriate in order to foster transparency.

The Board also authorized the taskforce to begin identifying and developing a plan to support possible Democratic candidates for election to the Seal Beach City Council in 2026. In addition, the taskforce will begin exploring ways the board can develop the framework to better influence voters both within and beyond Leisure World.

Democrats and supporters are invited to subscribe to the club’s free e-newsletter by emailing editor Mary Larson at mlarson. telfords@gmail.com. Full contact information, including name, mail address, phone number, email address, and party affiliation should be included in the request.
