SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

The Shuffleboard Club spring league season beginning on Tuesday, April 1, will be a recordbreaking event. With the growth of the club membership, there will be 13 teams of seven players each. Both Thursday afternoon and Friday morning leagues will have four teams playing each week, while the Tuesday evening league will accommodate five teams for the weekly competitions.

The club had its monthly general business meeting on March 13, with positive reports all around. Thirty-three members attended and enjoyed the camaraderie plus the excitement of the expanded new season. Key discussion points included upcoming social events and opportunities for helping fill necessary positions to support the growing club.

With over 100 club members— 13 teams of seven—there is a job for everyone, including team captains and co-captains, hosts for open play times, plus the committee chairs for holiday parties and special events.

Starting in April, hosted open play will take place every Monday and Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. Open play is designed to practice more advanced shuffleboard skills and to help people who might be interested in learning the game take their first steps.

March 7 Friday morning league results: Team Sally won seven of the 12 games without any all-game winners, a clear sign that all team members are winning games. Donna Gorman and Ellie West, representing Team Jack, were all-game winners for their team. Team Patti dominated the games with Team Shel winning eight of the 12 games. Hoan Lekhac, Rod Osgood, and Steve Edrich were all-game winners for Team Patti. Team captain Shel Magnuson earned all-game winner honors for her team.

Team Sue may have set a record winning nine of the evening’s 12 games, led by all-game winners Sal LaScala, Susan McKaig, Patty Peterson and Lynne Haines, substituting for a regular team player. Team Karen did not have any all-game winners.
