Beginners: learn poker in May

TOURNAMENT POKER CLUB
The Tournament Poker Club will hold a series of poker lessons beginning Saturday, May 3. Six spaces remain on the waiting list. These lessons are designed for people who are rusty, just learning, or who have never played Texas Hold ‘Em before. For more information, contact Debbie Barner at 325-721-0687.
Those interested in playing a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em, for a $5 buy-in, can join the club’s tournament on Saturday, April 5. Regular tournaments are held the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee and treats. Registration is at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. No late seating is permitted.
On March 8, 56 participants played an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em. High hand winners were: Jack Pfeifer with a 6-10 spade flush, and Eric Holder and Mike Gass with the same hand Q-Q-QK- K. Chunghe Scharschmidt won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 2-10.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Marvin Rolnick, first place; Jack Pfeifer, second; Mike Gass, third; Nancy Jordan, fourth; Chunghe Scharschmidt, fifth; Valerie Jorgenson, sixth; and Cornel Sneekes, seventh.
Play continued at the final table until Pfiefer (8-5) and Rolnick (3-6) were head’s up. The flop came 2-7-6 and both players checked. The turn was a Q, and Pfeifer went all in, and was called by Rolnick who had paired his six. The river was a two, giving Rolnick the win with his pair of sixes.
Rolnick has lived in Leisure World for five years and has been a member of the poker club since he arrived. This was his fifth final table and win. Besides the poker club, Marvin is a member of the Creative Writers Club and a published author and podcaster. He also enjoys Sudoku and chess.
