CalFresh sign-up event is March 13

Eligible LWers can sign up to receive free money to purchase food on Thursday, March 13, from 8-11 a.m., in Clubhouse 3, Room 4. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), otherwise known as food stamps, allows those who qualify to receive monthly benefits on an EBT card. It works like a debit card and can be used to purchase food and prepared meals from participating grocery stores and restaurants.

To qualify for CalFresh, LW residents must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, over the age of 60, with the monthly income of no more than $2,510 for a one-person household. People do not need to have Medi-Cal or Medi-Care to be eligible. To apply, bring the photo ID, Social Security number and proof of income. People may also need their resident cards and proof of expenses or bank statements. CalFresh application will not affect anyone’s immigration status.

Those over the age of 60 and living with disabilities can also apply and maintain their benefits. Households with an elderly or disabled member can use their gross income minus applicable deductions to determine eligibility.
