First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
Before Jacob, the last of the great Hebrew patriarchs, had died he passed on his blessings to his sons and adopted grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh. At his request his burial will be with his fathers Abraham and Isaac in Canaan. After a period of 70 days of mourning, Joseph approached Pharaoh’s household with his father’s request to be carried to and buried in Canaan Pharaoh grants Joseph’s request. A great entourage proceeds taking Jacob from Egypt to Canaan for burial. Jacob is buried with his wife Leah, Abraham, and his wife, Sarah, and Isaac and his wife, Rebekah.
Genesis 50:12 says, “So his sons did for him just as he commanded them. For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah.” This closes out the great period of the Hebrew patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Joseph along with the rest of Jacob’s household will return to Egypt where he will live to the age of 110. He will remain buried in Egypt until God raises up Moses to free the Hebrews from slavery some 400 years later, at which time Joseph’s bones will be carried by them until Joshua leads the Israelites into the promised land and buries Joseph in Shechem. Oddly enough Shechem is where Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers. But, with the return of his bones to Canaan the promise is kept.
