Guys and Gals Golf Tournament

On Feb. 19, an initially damp, foggy and slightly overcast morning greeted 33 teams of one man and one woman of varying golfing skills at the par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. The sun worked hard to break through the overcast, and by 9 a.m. the morning was clear and temps were warming. There was no wind, and the course dried up quickly, making for a good playing conditions.

Overall, the golf course was in good shape with greens, fairways, and tee boxes in very playable condition. The 33 teams competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges. With the excellent play ing conditions, all teams scored well with 30 of the 33 teams net at or below par, plus there were four circle hole winners, and 57 birdies recorded.

Closest to the pin for the men was Tom Owens and Gene Archambault, and for the women it was Kyung Ju and Grace Choi. Low net score for the round was James Farr and Bert Thompson at 11 under par. Fujio Norihiro and Keiko Sekino, Tom Owens and Alison Kim, and Scott Tuchfarber and Pam Krug tied for second lowest at 10 under par. Bob and Janice Turner were third lowest at 7 under.

Tournament statistics: Overall average gross score for all 33 teams was 60.4 strokes or slightly over six strokes above par. Average net scores for all teams was 49.3 strokes or just short of five strokes under par. Gross scores were better by two strokes than last month’s tournament.
