First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible. It is a friendly church that welcomes everyone to join in worship and explore God’s word together.
“That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
Genesis 45 reveals one of the greatest acts of forgiveness in the Bible. The time to reveal himself to his brothers had come as Joseph could not control himself any longer. He said to his brothers: “I am Joseph!” That was the release of a lot of emotions that have been building in Joseph’s heart. After he collects himself, verse three reads: “then Joseph said to his brothers, is my father still live?” But the brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence.” The brother they had who so long ago left in the wilderness was still alive and standing before them in the house of Pharoah in Egypt.
This reunion is the beginning of the reconciliation between Joseph and his brothers, andan incredible actofforgiveness is recorded in verse five: “But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me to preserve life.” In verse seven, Joseph continues: “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” Those words are words of forgiveness directed to Joseph’s brother and evidence of Joseph’s trust and faith in God.
Joseph’s words were of great comfort to his brothers. Joseph then sends them on their way with instructions to return to Egypt with his father and his household that they would be well cared for in the land of Egypt. It is through the man Jacob and his descendants that God’s ultimate plan of establishing the kingdom of Isreal will be accomplished.
Weekend Services
Sunday services are from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and are traditional services with Hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Kevin and Angela Billing will bring the special music.
Saturday services are from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and include contemporary songs ofworship, ledbyGregory Blackwith guitar and vocal accompaniment.
Midweek Studies
Melli Herrera leads a Women’s Bible Study on Mondays
from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Pastor Humes leads a Thursday Bible Study from 10:3011:30 a.m. He also leads a Friday Prayer and Bible Study from 4-5 p.m. All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend the above services and Bible studies.
