Velvetones, Vinyl Rock, Abilene take stage this month
GRF WEEKEND DANCES
The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra, Vinyl Rock and Abilene will each take the stage this month.
Velvetones Big Band
First off is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing big band swing and jazz standards on Sunday, Jan. 19 from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. The Velvetones play regularly at LW Clubhouse 4 on the first and third Sunday evenings.
Vinyl Rock
Vinyl Rock will perform Saturday, Jan. 11, in Clubhouse 4 at 7 p.m. All are welcome but guests must be accompanied by the resident who invites them.
The Orange County-based band consists of eight members who perform classic rock, pop and Motown tunes primarily from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. The band keeps the audience engaged, inviting them to participate in sing-alongs and by mingling on the dance floor.
Vinyl Rock is sponsored by Cabaret Entertainers and is free to GRF members and their guests (over 18).
Abilene
Abilene, a country rock band will play Saturday, Jan. 25, in Clubhouse 2. Free dance lessons precede the performance at 6:30. Original founder Terry Otte died in 2024 and co-founder Rod Anderson retired, but the band continues with vocalist Tina Schaffer, drummer Jim Greer and bassist Doug Decker. They play with new members Robin Johnston and Greg Johnson. They have incorporated new sounds to compliment the new artists.
