Stella Yoon aces No. 1 at Guys and Gals golf
On Dec. 18, a sunny morning greeted 35 teams of one man and one woman of differing abilities at the par-54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. As the morning went on the temperatures increased to make it a wonderful day to play golf with friends. The teams competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes-shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded- and two closest to the pin challenges.
Suitable playing conditions contributed to good scores with 31 of the 35 teams being net at or below par, plus there were 16 circle hole winners and 50 birdies recorded. Stella Yoon aced the 100-yard first hole and will share her prize with her playing partner Gene Archambault.
Low net score for the round was shot by Mike Mayfield and Nancy Tye at 10 under par. Jon Russell and Mary Ann Moore, and Alan Sewell and Nancy Smith shared second lowest with 9 under 45. Closest to the pin for the men was Hyon Shion and Ralph Koizumi, and for the women it was Joann Lim and Linda Herman.
Tournament statistics: Overall average gross score for all 35 teams was 63.9 strokes or nearly 10 strokes over par. Overall average net scores for all teams was 52.2 strokes or nearly 2 under par.
