Beginning Jan. 6 at 8 a.m., the GRF Minibuses will shift to an on-call, pointto- point transportation system, offering greater flexibility and convenience for residents of Leisure World.

This new system will allow riders to call a bus when they need it, eliminating the need to rely on fixed bus schedules and routes.

The service will cover all areas in Leisure World and extend to the Seal Beach Village shopping center, offering access to popular locations like Dollar Tree.

With the on-call system, residents can call for a ride whenever they need one. After sharing their location, a bus will arrive in 10 minutes or less. Alternatively, riders can flag down a bus from the sidewalk.

The GRF Board of Directors approved the new system during a Sept. 24 meeting, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

By eliminating fixed routes and timetables, the GRF hopes to streamline the service, making it more responsive to residents’ needs.

How the On-Call System Works

Starting Monday, Jan. 6, residents will be able to request a ride by calling the new dedicated number: 562-472-1367.

Riders will need to provide their location, either by sharing a specific pickup address or by referencing one of the community’s bus shelters. Prior to implementation, all 30 bus shelters in Leisure World will be labeled with ON-CALL

numbers. These numbers will help bus drivers quickly navigate the community, making it easier for both residents and drivers to coordinate rides.

Each bus shelter will also be equipped with key information, including the hours of service and the phone number for scheduling a ride. These shelters feature shaded areas and seating, providing a comfortable place for riders to wait, especially during inclement weather.

Transportation for People With Mobility Challenges The LW Access Bus, which is designed to accommodate individuals with limited mobility, will continue to operate on an appointment basis. This service allows riders to schedule a ride up to three days in advance by calling 562-472-1367. Same-day reservations are available on a limited basis.

The LW Access Bus is equipped with a lift to assist passengers using wheelchairs, electric scooters, or those who have difficulty with steps.
