LW Men’s Golf League

It was a cool morning that greeted five players of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League at the par-71 Meadowlark Golf course Dec. 13. The course was wet from overnight watering but otherwise the grounds are in good condition.

Winners: Clay Fischer, first place; Gary Stivers and Chris Lankford, second; Fujio Norihiro, third; Sam Choi, fourth.

The golfer with fewest putts for the round was Stivers. There were birdies by Lankford, Fischer and Norihiro. Stivers was closest to the pin on the 140-yard par-3 seventh hole, and Fischer was closest on the difficult 140yard par-3 16th hole.

On Dec. 16, 10 men and one woman competed at the David L. Baker Golf Course in Fountain Valley. The weather was sunny, with no wind but cool, and very dry. Baker continues to upgrade the course with on-going maintenance and repair on fairways and tee boxes.

With good playing conditions, eight of the 11 golfers shot net at or under par and there were some low scores. In addition, there were seven birdies: two by Jim Goltra and Ron Jackson, and one each by Fujio Norihiro, Larry Hillhouse and Bob Munn. Goltra had fewest putts in the A flight and Jackson had fewest in the B. Mr. “Clean Sweep” Jackson was also closest to the pin on the 100-yard par-3 third hole, and Norihiro on the 140-yard par-3 12th hole.

A flight winners: Goltra, 9 under 53, first place; Norihiro, 7 under 55, second; Gary Stivers, 3 under 59, third; Hillhouse, 2 under 60, fourth; Seon Kim, 1 under 61, fifth; Clay Fischer, even par 62, sixth; followed by Chris Lankford and Sam Choi.

B flight winners: Jackson, 7 under 55, first place; Munn, even par 62, second; Keiko Sekino, third.
