Choose from two live bands to ring in the New Year

Leisure Worlders will have two choices for celebration on New Year’s Eve: ballroom dance in Clubhouse 4 or country rock in Clubhouse 2.
Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing big band swing and jazz standards.
The band plays regularly at Clubhouse 4 on the first and third Sunday evenings, but this year, by popular demand they will be back on New Year’s Eve in Clubhouse 4. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the band will play from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Abilene Country Rock Band
Abilene will hold its annual New Year’s Eve party on Tuesday, Dec. 31, in Clubhouse 2 at 9 p.m. Abilene is Leisure World’s No. 1 country rock band going strong for 20-plus years. Abilene highlights Robin Johnston on guitar, Jim Greer on drums, featured vocalist Tina Schaffer on keyboards, Greg Johnson on keyboards and Doug Decker on bass, with singing duties shared by all. • No table saving. People can bring their own snacks.
• No announcements are permitted from the stage, except by the bands.
• Clubhouse lighting and audio- visual equipment can only be adjusted by the custodian according to the instructions they have been given.
• Be sure to sign in, either as a resident or guest, in the proper spot. This is the only way GRF can judge the popularity of people’s favorite bands.
