GAF'S MOBILITY AID PROGRAM
The mobility aid program is one of the Golden Age Foundation’s (GAF) core programs. It provides a variety of equipment designed to promote greater freedom and independence to LW residents with mobility impairments and also to decrease the risk of falling. These services are offered completely free of charge.
The GAF has five types of mobility aids in a variety of sizes including wheelchairs, transport chairs, four wheel rollators with seats, knee rollators and front wheel walkers.
Two trained volunteers staff the office in Clubhouse 6, Monday through Friday from 9-11 a.m. The volunteers will provide
Volunteers Feliza Dixon (l) and Roberta Johnson in the GAF's Mobility Aid offi ce. assistance in choosing the right piece of equipment and adjusting it to the users specific needs. Volunteers will also provide instruction on proper use of each mobility aid.
The GAF has an after-hours telephone assistance line, 562431-9589 staffed by volunteers to provide information and urgent assistance when needed.
Each year the GAF loans approximately 1,500 pieces of equipment to Leisure World residents.
During the holidays, the mobility aids office will be closed Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, and New Years Day, Wednesday. Jan. 1.
