First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
The church will observe Christmas with songs of the season.
Pastor’s Message
Saturday, Dec. 14, Pastor Bruce Humes will set his study in Genesis aside and speak on a topic that defines the Christian faith; the gospel message, which literally means, in Greek, “to announce good news.”
An example is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-2a where the apostle Paul wrote, “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which you are saved.”
Continuing in verses 3-4, “For I delivered to you first of all that which I received that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
In these verses the apostle Paul defines the gospel as the good news of Jesus Christ.
On Sunday, guest Pastor Chris Cherryholmes will speak to the congregation. Pastor Chris is the son of Pastor Gene Cherryholmes who led First Christian Church for 17 years before retiring in January 2019. He has since passed into glory to be with his savior, Jesus Christ. Pastor Chris leads the JAM (Jesus and Me) ministry in Bakersfield, California.
