American Legion Post Unit 327 honors volunteers
The American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit 327 thanks all who attended its special Veterans Day event on Nov. 11.
The ceremony started with patriotic music from the Velvetones Ballroom Orchestra and then the Los Alamitos Navel Sea Cadets posted the Color Guard flags.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 327 President Carolyn van Aalst gave a history of the Auxiliary’s beginnings. The Commander of the American Legion Post 327 Rich Carson gave a heartfelt tribute about the Prisoner of War table that represents those missing in action. Carson acknowledged all the branches of the service and Leisure World veterans who attended the event. He then gave out three awards to individuals who have been honored for their service to the American Legion and Leisure World community. The honorees were Tom Schmitz, Phyllis Pierce and Lt. Cmdr. Cathy Weissman. A special acknowledgement was presented by van Aalst to Carson for his five-plus years of Commander, outstanding contributions, selfless service and the lives he touched through the American Legion and in the community.
Those who want to serve veterans by becoming a member of the American Legion Post should call Carson at 714-7196872. Those who want to join the Auxiliary should call Dianne Hart at 714-955-2885.
