Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by.

At the Nov. 15 meeting, members learned that the club lost a total of 13 pounds that week. Ellen Larsen, who already has a doctorate degree in weight loss, was a loser of the week with a 2-pound loss. Her secret was eating right and accepting all the support and encouragement from other members.

Judy Chambers shared some holiday eating tips, such as bewaring of liquid calories (egg-nog, beer, soda, wine), choosing foods carefully and keeping the portions small.

She added that shareable dishes should be healthy and to everyone’s taste, such as vegetable or fruit salad, or hummus. This way everyone can enjoy it without racking their calories.

The best tip was being realistic during the holidays and not trying to lose weight, but trying to maintain it. Otherwise, it could become a self-defeating goal.

The weekly food for thought was: “I am thankful for all that I have learned and shared in Wa-Rite in order to maintain my health.”
