Tournament Poker Club
Fifty players turned out for the Nov. 9 poker tournament, which made for a great time for all participants win or lose. High hand winners were Brent Covington (9999J) and K.C.Lee (AAAKK). Mike Gass won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 10-5. As the winners of their original table, the final table players were Larry Slutsky (sixth), Katie Hamilton (fifth), Erika Greenwood (fourth), Steve Edrick (third), Stanley Fong (second) and Wendy Wu (first). Play continued at the final table until Stanley and Wendy were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Stanley was holding A9 and Wendy had K-7. When the flop came 2,Q,9 both players checked. The turn was a K, and Fong went all in. Wu, who now had a pair of K’s, called the all-in. The river was an 8, which didn’t help Fong and gave Wu the win.
Wu has lived in Leisure World for 14 years and has been a member of the poker club for 10 years. This was her 16th final table win at regular tournament.
In addition to Tournament Poker, Wendy is a member of the Ping Pong Club in Leisure World. She also likes to read, and spend time with her friends.
Everyone is invited to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in. The next tournament will be Saturday, Nov. 16.
Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee and treats; registration is at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30 p.m., and there is no late seating.
Casino Tournament is Dec. 14 The club is now taking reservations for the special casino touurnment on Dec. 14 in the lobby of Clubhouse 6. Checkin and a continental breakfast start at 9:45 a.m.; players will be seated at 10:15 and play begins at 10:30 (no late seating).
Club members, LW residents and their guests are welcome to participate. Cost is $20 for members; $25 for non-member residents and guests. There are no re-buys, and no refunds will be given after Dec. 7. Guests must be accompanied by a LW resident who is playing in the tournament.
