Tournament Poker Club
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Nov. 9 in the lobby of Clubhouse 6 with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
The club had a great turnout for the tournament on Nov. 2. The high hand winners were: Larry Slutsky (K-K-K-10-10) and Brian Burke (K-K-K-6-6). By playing and winning the promo hand of 7-2, Nancy Floyd won a prize. There were 49 players at seven tables who started the game. As players were eliminated, the final table players were: Guta Basner, first place; Jae Jun, second; Lonnie Ton, third; Debbie Barner, fourth; Trai Nguyen, fifth; Roger Montero, sixth; Ray Lim, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Jun and Basner were heads up. With both players challenging each other, play continued until a flop came 9-8-K. Basner went all in with J-5. She was called by Jun, who had 7-10. The turn was a Q, and the river card was a 4. Basner’s J was the high card and gave her the win.
Basner has lived in Leisure World for 12 years and has been a member of the poker club for nine years. This was her 10th final table win at regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Basner plays pickleball and billiards here in LW. She also enjoys completing all kinds of puzzles including Sudoku.
