Foursome happily plays shuf. eboard weekly

SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB

The Shuffleboard Club Turkey Shoot will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, from 3-5 p.m. at the courts, followed by pizza provided by the club.

Four active members of the club—Fred Carpenter, Sal LaScala, Shel Magnuson and Harold Morehead— have been playing weekly since last spring, including all summer long. They meet early in the morning, get the equipment out and ready the chosen court for their weeklygames.They’vebecome buddies as a result and there are always some laughs and friendly banter back and forth during the course of the morning play. Three of the four are in a weekly league as well.

When asked why they make the extra effort, the reasons vary. Shel Magnuson explains she’s an early riser so likes to get going and “it’s fun.” Harold Morehead added, “we like joking around, improving our game and getting to know one another.” Sal LaScala exclaimed, “I come just because I have to keep moving. I play pool at 7 a.m. and come right over here afterwards.” One thing they all agree on is that the mutual support and companionship is what keeps them at it.

Friday morning league results for Nov. 1: Team Carol overtook Team Sally 7-5. All-game winners for Team Carol were Linda Peters and Stephanie Reagan. Team Sally’s all-game winners were Sally Fowler and Sal LaScala.

Tuesday evening league results for Nov. 5: Team Jack bested Team Shel 8-4. All game winners for Team Jack included Teri James, John Mount, Harold Morehead and Jack O’Brien. Team Shel’s lone all-game winner was Rod Osgood.
