Past president will be club’s guest demonstration artist on Nov. 12
LW ART LEAGUE
The Leisure World Art League will meet Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Clubhouse 4 at 7 p.m.
The guest demonstration artist and judge is a familiar face and regular fixture at the Art League meetings: Barbara Simundza, past president of the LW Art League and teacher at the Art League acrylic painting classes and workshops.
Growing up in California’s South Bay, Simundza developed a lifelong fascination with all things related to the sea. Shells became a consistent metaphor for life in her work.
She earned a Master of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at California State University Long Beach, where she taught art. She moved to Leisure World just before retiring from teaching, where she volunteered for 10 years and created workshops for the Art League. Her paintings are done in acrylic paint on canvas.
She will demonstrate how she lays out and executes her work at the meeting.
Examples of her style of acrylic painting will also be on display along with the materials she uses. Inspiration comes from her travels with a group of artists to places such as Zion, Lone Pine, Soledad and Canada. She draws and uses watercolors when traveling or painting outdoors.
The Art League encourages everyone to bring their paintings and 3D art and crafts to enter in the art competition. The art competition is free to all active Art League members. Those who are not members can bring their painting and join as a new member at the meeting. For more information about the categories of the competition, email mthiggins24@gmail.com.
The popular vote theme for this meeting is autumn. People with art entries for the competition are encouraged to come early. Judging will start at 6:30 p.m.
People can also bring paintings for display only if they do not want to enter in the competition.
