Five ways to celebrate Veterans Day
VETERANS DAY
On Nov. 11, people across the country will honor the brave men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The federal holiday, formerly known as Armistice Day, began as an occasion to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in the country’s service. It falls on Nov. 11, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
A 1938 Congressional Act called it “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace.”
People can celebrate and honor veterans at the following five events in and around Leisure World: 1. American Legion Post 327 Ceremony in Clubhouse 2 The American Legion Post 327 will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, in Clubhouse 2 beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding with the playing of “Taps” at 11 a.m.
The event will feature the Velvetones Ballroom Orchestra playing favorites that honor military members and families. The Naval Sea Cadets will open with the flag march. There will be a special presentation to honor exemplary members who have been extremely supportive of the Legion’s events.
