John Kolthoff aces seventh hole
LW MEN'S GOLF CLUB
The second monthly Leisure Men’s Golf Club tournament was played Oct. 23 at Turtle Lake Golf Course. Sixty-two golfers in teams of two competed in three flights and contended for best net (gross score minus handicap) scores, plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closest to the pin challenges.
The format was different this week and was played with rules identical to the Guys and Gals tournaments where: 1. Each player hits his drive and then the best shot was chosen to be played next. 2. The player whose ball is not chosen hits the next shot and then players alternated shots until the ball went in the hole. 3. All balls were played into the hole—there were no gimmies or concessions. Just 27 of the 31 teams were net at or under par, and there 61 birdies—up from 50 last tournament—and 13 circle hole winners. John Kolthoff had a hole-in-one on the 85-yard par-3 seventh hole.
Closest to the pin on the seventh hole was Tom Owens at 2 feet, 3 inches and on the 16th hole, it was John Kolthoff at 4 feet, 2 inches. A new statistic: the average net score for all 31 teams was 48.9 strokes or 5 plus strokes under par. The average gross score was 59.5—almost six strokes over par.
All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap).
