Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should plan to play at the next Tournament Poker Club gathering on Nov. 2. Regular tournaments are usually on the first three Saturdays of every month. Regular tournaments start with coffee and treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

The last tournament for this month was Oct. 12. There were six tables of seven players and a great time was had by all participants, win or lose. High hand winners were Brian Burke (K-K-K-K-A) and Martha Destra (4-4-4-4-10). Brent Covington won a prize for winning with the promo hand of 9-2.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Wayne Casper, first place; Jae Jun, second; Maryanne Conte, third; Eric Holdaway, fourth; Brian Burke, fifth; Jeff Rolnick, sixth. Play continued until Jun and Casper were heads up. Jun was holding A-Q and Casper had 6-9. When the flop came 2-9, Jun went all in. Casper called the all-in with a pair of 9s. The turn was a 6, which gave Casper two pair. The river was a K, which didn’t help Jun and gave Casper the win.

Casper has lived in Leisure World for five years and has been a member of the poker club for two years. This was his first final table win at a regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Casper is a member of the billiards club. He also likes to read, exercise, travel and spend time with his grandkids.
