This year’s Shuffleboard Club Halloween party will be held from 5-8 p.m. in Clubhouse 1 on Saturday, Oct. 26. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume.

Approximately 10 new members are actively participating in the Shuffleboard Club fall leagues. Many of them found their way to the courts through the GRF spring Discovery Tour, and others came because of friends or word of mouth. It’s a lively group, and it is spurring on the enthusiasm of more seasoned members too.

Newbie Sandy Bush exclaimed, “It’s good for your mind and for your health. As long as my knees keep working and my back isn’t killing me, I’ll keep doing it.”

Linda and Bill Mitchell were looking for an activity they could do together. When they dropped by the courts on the tour, Linda said, “We were instantly greeted by friendly faces and positive energy.” She added, “It’s been a good fit for us. Members are super welcoming, there are no silly rules or power plays and it’s just fun. Even if you lose, it’s not a big deal and they think of everything, even yummy snacks and coffee on league days.” Newcomer Susie Kim says she likes mingling with the other players and “really concentrating on what I’m doing.” She said she is encouraged by the other players, many older than she is, who are encouraging, friendly, and try to teach her.

Game results for Oct. 15: Team Harold and Team Sue shared the same score 4-4, with no all-game winners on either side. Team Roger and Team Karen also tied their games up 8-8. All-game winners for Team Roger were Roger Bennett and Helene Nuen. There were three all-game winners for Team Karen—Karen Mendon, John Mount and Linda Everson.
